Why Medical Supervision Matters
Attempting to quit alcohol, opioids, benzodiazepines, or other substances without professional oversight can be dangerous and, in some cases, life-threatening. Withdrawal from alcohol and benzodiazepines, for example, may trigger seizures, while opioid withdrawal causes severe physical distress that drives many people back to use.
At VBS Healing Services, our medical team provides around-the-clock monitoring and medication-assisted treatment to minimize withdrawal symptoms, prevent medical complications, and keep you as comfortable as possible during these critical first days of recovery.
Program duration: 3 to 7 days, depending on the substance, usage history, and individual health factors.

The Detox Process: Step by Step
Comprehensive Assessment
Upon arrival, our clinical team performs a thorough medical and psychological evaluation. We review your substance use history, physical health, mental health status, and any co-occurring conditions. This assessment guides every decision in your personalized detox plan.
Medically Managed Stabilization
During the withdrawal phase, our nurses and physicians monitor your vital signs continuously. Medication-assisted treatment is administered as needed to control symptoms such as nausea, anxiety, muscle aches, and cravings. Our goal is to make this process as safe and comfortable as possible.
Transition to Treatment
As your body stabilizes, our care team works with you to design the next phase of your recovery. Most clients transition directly into our residential or partial hospitalization program, ensuring continuous support without a gap in care.
24/7 Medical Monitoring
Our licensed medical staff is available around the clock throughout your entire detox stay. You are never alone in the process. Call us now at (626) 587-3114 to begin your safe, supervised detox.
Residential Treatment
Our residential program provides an immersive, structured environment where healing becomes your sole focus. With 24-hour support and evidence-based therapies, you build the skills and mindset needed for lasting sobriety.
What Is Residential Treatment?
Residential treatment, sometimes called inpatient rehab, means you live on-site at our West Covina facility for the duration of your program. This removes the triggers, stressors, and temptations of daily life so you can devote your full energy to recovery.
Every day follows a carefully designed schedule that blends individual therapy, group counseling, evidence-based modalities like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), 12-step facilitation, family therapy, and holistic wellness activities.
Program Length Options
30-Day Program
Ideal for individuals with a strong support system and shorter substance use history. Provides an intensive introduction to recovery skills and relapse prevention.
60-Day Program
Our most recommended option. Allows deeper therapeutic work, stronger habit formation, and time to address underlying trauma or co-occurring mental health conditions.
90-Day Program
The gold standard for long-term recovery. Research consistently shows that longer treatment stays correlate with significantly better outcomes and reduced relapse rates.

Outpatient Programs
Structured treatment that fits your life. Our outpatient programs provide the clinical support you need to sustain recovery while maintaining work, school, and family responsibilities.
Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)
PHP serves as a step down from residential treatment or as a starting point for individuals who need intensive care but do not require 24-hour supervision. Clients attend programming 5 to 6 days per week for approximately 5 to 6 hours each day over a 2- to 4-week period.
PHP includes daily group therapy, individual counseling sessions, psychiatric evaluation and medication management, evidence-based modalities such as CBT and DBT, and family therapy sessions. This level of care provides a strong clinical framework while allowing you to return home each evening.
Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)
IOP is designed for those transitioning from higher levels of care or for individuals whose addiction severity allows for a flexible schedule. Clients attend 3 to 5 sessions per week, each lasting 3 to 4 hours, over an 8- to 12-week period.
Programming focuses on relapse prevention, coping skills development, group therapy, peer support, and continued individual counseling. Many of our IOP clients attend sessions in the morning or evening, making it possible to keep working or attending school during treatment.
Standard Outpatient
Our standard outpatient program provides ongoing therapeutic support for individuals who have completed a higher level of care or who need a lighter touch. Sessions typically meet 1 to 2 times per week and include individual therapy, group check-ins, and continued relapse prevention planning.

Step-Down Care: A Seamless Transition
Recovery does not happen in a single phase. At VBS Healing Services, we design your treatment journey as a gradual step-down through decreasing levels of intensity. Most clients follow a path similar to this:
Medical Detox (3-7 Days)
Safe, medically supervised withdrawal sets the foundation for treatment readiness.
Residential Treatment (30-90 Days)
Immersive inpatient care builds coping skills, addresses root causes, and establishes healthy routines.
PHP (2-4 Weeks)
Intensive day treatment bridges the gap between residential and independent living.
IOP (8-12 Weeks)
Flexible outpatient sessions support the transition back into work, school, and family life.
Aftercare
Ongoing support, alumni groups, and continued therapy protect long-term sobriety.
Dual Diagnosis Treatment
When addiction and mental illness coexist, treating one without the other almost guarantees relapse. Our integrated dual diagnosis program addresses both conditions simultaneously for complete, lasting healing.
What Is Dual Diagnosis?
Dual diagnosis, also known as co-occurring disorders, refers to the presence of both a substance use disorder and a mental health condition at the same time. Research shows that nearly half of people struggling with addiction also experience a mental health disorder, and each condition fuels the other in a destructive cycle.
Many people turn to drugs or alcohol to self-medicate symptoms of depression, anxiety, PTSD, or bipolar disorder. Over time, substance use worsens the very symptoms it was meant to relieve, creating a cycle that is almost impossible to break without professional, integrated treatment.
At VBS Healing Services, our dual diagnosis program uses a trauma-informed, evidence-based approach that treats both conditions at the same time, rather than addressing them in isolation. This integrated methodology dramatically improves outcomes and reduces the likelihood of relapse.
Mental Health Conditions We Treat
Depression
Persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and loss of interest are common among those struggling with addiction. Our clinical team uses CBT, behavioral activation, and medication management to address depressive disorders alongside substance use treatment.
Anxiety Disorders
Generalized anxiety, social anxiety, and panic disorder frequently co-occur with addiction. Through DBT skills training, exposure techniques, and mindfulness-based interventions, we help clients develop healthier coping mechanisms.
PTSD & Trauma
Many individuals use substances to cope with unresolved trauma. Our trauma-informed care approach incorporates EMDR, somatic experiencing, and trauma-focused CBT to help process painful experiences in a safe, supportive environment.
Bipolar Disorder
The extreme mood swings of bipolar disorder often drive self-medication with drugs or alcohol. Our psychiatric team provides mood stabilization through medication management and therapy tailored to the unique challenges of bipolar recovery.
Our Integrated Approach
Unified Treatment Team
Therapists, psychiatrists, and addiction specialists collaborate on a single, coordinated treatment plan rather than working in silos.
Evidence-Based Modalities
CBT, DBT, trauma-informed care, and motivational interviewing form the clinical backbone of our dual diagnosis program.
Psychiatric Evaluation & Medication
Board-certified psychiatrists provide thorough evaluations and manage medications to stabilize mood and mental health symptoms.
Family Therapy
Addiction and mental illness affect the entire family. Our family therapy sessions rebuild trust, improve communication, and create a supportive home environment.
Holistic Therapies
Yoga, meditation, art therapy, and mindfulness training complement clinical treatment to heal the mind, body, and spirit as a whole.
Ongoing Assessment
Treatment plans are regularly reviewed and adjusted as you progress, ensuring the right balance of care at every stage of recovery.
Aftercare & Alumni Support
Recovery does not end when formal treatment concludes. Our aftercare program provides the ongoing structure and community you need to protect your sobriety for years to come.
Personalized Aftercare Plan
Before discharge, your therapist creates a detailed aftercare plan that includes continued therapy recommendations, support group referrals, and relapse prevention strategies.
Alumni Community
Stay connected with peers who understand your journey. Our alumni program includes regular meetups, sober social events, and a support network that lasts a lifetime.
